Prepare yourself, because it’s almost that time of year when your instagram feed will see an influx of fringed jackets, impossible to copy hair braids, flower crowns and the beautiful people of the celebrity world having the BEST TIME EVER. That’s right – Coachella is just around the corner. It’s where the festival fashion trends for the year are tried and tested – so where better to look for some style inspiration. You might not be jetting off to sunny California – but if you’re hitting up a festival this year, it’s worth looking to the key style tribes to get your look sorted. Coachella’s coming – get festival ready!
We’ve scoured the archives to bring you the key looks to build your outfits around – whether your there for the music, or for the insta snaps – and of course, we’re working from the shoes up.
I’m With the Band
These gals are there for the music – they know their stuff and will probably be able to find a way to get back-stage and hang out with the band. Effortlessly cool and a little bit grungy, this look is all about vintage band tees, worn leather, distressed denim cut-offs and just the right about of bad-ass attitude. This look calls for the classics – opt for the Converse All Star Hi in black, the iconic mono Vans Old Skool, or a sturdy pair of Dr. Marten’s 8 Eye boots if you’re more likely to face seas of mud than sunny skies.
Ok, this one’s a bit of a Coachella cliché but it looks good and that’s why it works year after year. The Boho and Americana trends seem to have merged over the past few years with floaty sleeves, fringed suede, double-denim, flower crowns and cowboy boots all teaming up to create one killer look. Ankle boots are essential for this look. Check out our favourite country-inspired brand, Coconuts for this one. There’s suede, fringing and serious cowboy vibes – perfect for nailing this trend.
What are you supposed to be?
We’ve all seen it – the ones where you’re not quite sure if it’s fancy dress or if people are just pushing the fashion boundaries because literally anything goes at Coachella. It’s probably not a costume but at least one part of the outfit will be from a costume shop or the family fancy dress box. You’ll see crazy patterned spandex suits, head pieces – and everything else under the sun. 80s and 90s style usually have a big input – so go for bold, retro kicks. We reckon the classic Fila Disruptor or some bright Diadora n9000 iii’s will keep you comfy as your trekking from stage to stage.
Hopefully we’ve got you covered for all things footwear. Now all you need to do is get your festival tickets, and make sure your instagram skills are on point!
