A basketball icon, a skateboarding legend and the late Kurt Cobain’s go-to sneaker; the Converse One Star is back in business and we’re here to tell you why we’re loving the ‘70s plimsoll.

They say history repeats itself; trends come and go and the Converse One Star was short lived in the late ’70s. Surprisingly, the sneakers vanished from the shelves after only a year of trading but after a brief commercial flop, were then embraced by basketball and skateboarding culture alike – along with grunge superstar Cobain – in the early ‘90s.

Of course it would be one of the biggest rock stars of the early 90s to make that connection with the relic that is the One Star. The brand has a bit of a punk rock legacy so it was only right Kurt Cobain sported the ever-popular profile. He was frequently spotted wearing the black and white wonder while touring the world. So much so, Converse produced a Cobain special edition in 2008, honouring his music and love for the collection alone. The One Star also made its mark in the skateboarding world and the renowned chunky style remains a favourite with the likes of leading riders Eric Koston and Aaron Herrington and professional boarder Guy Mariano. They were and still are a street style staple for skate park and rock star enthusiasts.

With that in mind, Spring/Summer 2016 brings you the Converse One Star in the form of the Hairy Suede pack. Re-purposing their popular profile, this Converse comeback retains the classic skate look combined with street cool. Similar to the updated version of the Chuck II and the newly improved Jack Purcell, the One Star features the modern technology of the Lunarlon sockliner. Ultimate comfort from your first step.

Embracing the true board feel, the solid vulcanised sole unit blends perfectly with the coarse suede upper giving the trainer a bit of a textured edge. The brand’s trademark white star branding leaves a stamp of authenticity.
