Now we’re firmly into 2015, everyone’s running resolutions should be well underway. Here, we’ve put together a handy survival guide (which will most definitely be needed in our case, with us not having run more than 5 paces since early 2011) of which trainer from our favourite brands you should pick. We’ve also thrown in some handy motivational exercising quotes; just because we’re nice like that.

First up, we have the classics – New Balance are the epitome of retro running, combining fashion and function.

For the ladies, we have the cool grey New Balance 996 trainers. With an EVA midsole for plenty of support and a durable suede and fabric upper, this iconic look is a must-have.

For the guys, the New Balance 574 in a bright yellow is the one – blending in? No chance. The chunky ENCAP midsole offers plenty of supportive cushioning.

Next, sporting legends Nike. You don’t become one of the biggest trainer brands in the world purely based on your looks now, do you?

For the guys; the Nike Free Run V2 arrives in understated all-black. This tech-packed runner features bonded overlays for support, with a light Phylite midsole and deep-groove Free rubber sole to finish.

Don’t feel left out girls, the Nike Air Max Thea is perfect. Combining two popular styles – the classic Air Max and the contemporary Roshe Run – this lightweight hybrid with iconic visible Air heel panel proves you don’t need to sacrifice on style when going for substance.

Last, but by no means least, we have adidas closing up the pack.

How many running trainers can you say combine lightweight support, a fresh floral print and a designer collaboration? Not many; we’d bet 20 burpees on it. That’s where the adidas Racer Lite Farm Print comes in. Part of the collection with Brazilian The Farm Company, this sweet style will add a feminine touch to your collection.

Boys, take a walk on the wild side. A favourite silhouette of ours gets an update that has us roaring with approval. The adidas ZX Flux Decon arrives in an untameable leopard print completed with a TORSION midsole and heel stabiliser for comfort and support.

Is your running style more pretty flowers or ferocious beast?

Now that you’ve got your workout style on point, it’s time to actually get out there. We’ve procrastinated enough writing this post. If these aren’t to your liking, check out the rest of our women’s running and men’s running styles. At least now, whether you’re running for real or running to the fridge, you can look good doing it. Isn’t that the main thing?
