Nicky, Ladies Buying ManagerNicky-Polaroid

What do you do at schuh?
I’m the Buying Manager for all of the ladies brands. The team and I work with well-known brands our customers are devoted to, and introduce brand spanking new ones we know they’ll love.

How do you put an outfit together?
I dress to suit my mood each morning, so my outfits can be pretty eclectic from one day to the next.  Anything with fringing makes me the happiest!

What pair of shoes have you been wearing to death?
My lemon yellow Reebok Classics, I love them!

How many pairs do you own?
Well, my boyfriend would say way too many… Right now I’d say between 130-150 pairs but it has been a while since I did an audit. There have definitely been more additions than deductions to the collection lately.

Who should we be following on Instagram or looking to for online inspo?
Personally I love Mary Katrantzou for her amazing prints, Roksanda Ilincic for her elegant colour blocking and Balmain for their super sleek rock chic. I love solestruck, their tag line of “Because ugly shoes are a global issue” makes me laugh because it’s so true.

Which celeb has the best shoe game right now?
It has to be Rihanna. Every brand wants her to wear their product, and she gets to work so many styles in her effortlessly cool way.

Which brand has really impressed you for the coming season?
adidas, they have major game right now.

Stand out trend for AW15?
More 70s styling. It’s such a versatile trend and one that is really flattering for girls, with styles like Tutti Frutti and Debutant from Swedish Hasbeens. Thankfully, it’s set to continue for SS16. Think Farrah Fawcett and Amy Adams in American Hustle. Any opportunity to do Farrah hair flicks is a positive in my book.

James, Gents Buyer

What do you do at schuh?
I am the Gents Buyer responsible for the formal and casual department. I also work closely with the designers for Red or Dead and Momentum on product development.

How do you put an outfit together?
I wish I had time to put it together the night before, but generally I go for the morning option, I like to see how I feel and dress from the shoes up.

What pair of shoes have you been wearing to death?
Converse Sawyer Ox in white. Nice and clean, simple and go with everything. White sneakers are my go – to at the moment.

How many pairs do you own?
I’ve recently had a cull as I’m moving house and needed to downsize the collection. My current count is about 35 pairs from 70 odd… It’s quality, not quantity.

Who should we be following on Instagram?
Palace Skateboards and Kith NYC for product. Form Fifty Five and It’s Nice That for graphics and illustration. There are loads at the moment – Mokuyobi Threads and Hey Studio are really cool. They have an off shoot called Every Hey where you get an illustrated character on your feed, every day! See what I mean? I can’t pin it to just one or two.

What websites should we be visiting for inspiration?
It’s a bit like Instagram, it totally depends what you’re in to. I get as much inspiration from furniture and graphics websites as I do from fashion sites. Hypebeast is a good place to start, then see where the links take you. If you get excited by something you see then that’s what you can use as your inspiration. Nothing beats going outside though; people watching and going to galleries have been great sources of inspiration for me.

Which celeb has the best shoe game right now?
Pharrell is pretty much untouchable right now, he’s the stand out celeb of the moment.

Which brand has really impressed you for the coming season?
Timberland are looking really good, off the back of some strong collabs there is some great product coming through – exclusive to schuh too!

Stand out trend for AW15
For me it’s that things are getting heavier, cleated and we’re seeing chunky crepe wraps. We’ve got two new brands launching with some product on this tip; COBBLED by The Northern Cobbler and Farah Vintage. Both are very casual but this is an area I’d like to see grow off the back of stalwarts like Clarks Originals. Keep ‘em peeled!

The schuh blog keeps you up to speed with trends, new styles and who to watch. Check back for our regular posts. We’ll also be introducing more of our buying team, including another of our Ladies’ Buying Managers, Helen. Watch this space.
