We love shoes. You love shoes. So, since shoes are our thang, we thought we’d share our insider shoe knowledge with you in our annual round up of the biggest and best trends of 2014.
Long live the new runner. The love affair with new sports styles continues and more and more of you are wearing trainers than ever before. With everything. Which camp are you in? Nike Roshe Run or adidas ZX Flux? We’ll take both please.
Some of you are on more of a retro tip and every time adidas crack open the archives you go nuts. The Tobacco, the Hamburg, the Beckenbauer were stand outs. Puma Suede Classic Brasil was another favourite with those of you who have a more refined taste and appreciation for the old school vibe.
Skate styles are always big news, but 2014 saw the Nike S.B. Janoski ride to the top of the concrete wave and become one of the most legendary skate shoes ever. Countless colourways and prints for men, women and kids made it a definite crowd pleaser.
Ankle boots had a huge moment in 2014. Usually ditched in summer in favour of sandals, ankle boots were enjoyed all year long. Iconic platform styles and chunky tread were top of the list. Worn with everything from floaty dresses, to dungarees or mom jeans, you could not get enough. How many pairs do you own? Be honest.
One of the most hotly anticipated collaborations of the year was Vans x Star Wars. The Star Wars packs took us to a galaxy far far away… sorry! Our favourite Star Wars characters combined with signature Vans styles made them an instant hit. Snapping up a pair of these was a no brainer.
The Jelly Shoe
You scooped up the jelly shoe all summer long. The colourful sandals were spotted wobbling along almost on every high street in the country.
Clarks Originals x MF Doom
The Clarks Originals Wallabee and Hip Hop go together like Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. So when the legend that is MF Doom created a limited edition, it sold out in a New York minute.
Those ugly German orthopedic shoes are not looking so ugly anymore are they? Birks were a huge hit of summer 2014 and are set to be even bigger next year (spoiler alert: flatform Birks are coming – excited much?).
Whether your inspo came from Alexa or Snoop D O double G, you were loving the loafer in 2014. From tasselled Italian vibes to slick NYC street style, you wore them with finesse.
The Over the Knee Boot
The O.T.K. definitely deserves a shout out. Sexy and playful with a mega chunky sole, this blogger favourite was the stand out statement maker of the year. You probably thought you couldn’t, until you tried it on.
Last but not least, it would be rude not to mention everyone’s favourite, the biggest selling shoe of 2014…
The classic Converse All Star. What would a wardrobe be without a pair of these? Incomplete, we think.
