As you read the title of this post I know what you’re thinking – aren’t all shoes made for the outdoors? Well, yes (well with the exception of some special court shoes), but we’re talking really outdoorsy, like get down and dirty types you can wear for getting out into the great outdoors and running/walking/rambling, or whatever it is you do out there.

There’s a distinct trend this season where brands are going mad for the proper outdoor trainer and ‘winterising’ new and classic silhouettes. This means getting proper technical with the shoe’s design and build.

We’ve seen rugged soles for traction on wet and slippery terrains, use of different materials to help keep the heat in and the damp out. Clever lacing systems to make them easy to lace and adjust, chunkier soles for durability, plus loads more clever features to help you stay comfortable.

Do you like a long walk after you’ve eaten Christmas dinner? Some folks do believe it or not, personally I like to lie on the couch and eat selection boxes, but each to their own and all that. If you do like to get out and enjoy some fresh air in your lungs, try these two on for size.

The New Balance 574 Outdoor is one of the prettiest winterised silhouettes we’ve set eyes on in a while. Isn’t she lovely?  The colours are so bright and that speckled sole is awesome.

Another wintery style catching our eye is the Vans Sk8-Hi Mountain Edition Knit – it’s the perfect winterised plimsoll, it’s got a suede upper, fleece lining and snow boot inspired rubber lug outsole.

Enjoy the great outdoors in style!
