He graced the Davis Cup, The French Open, The US Open and Wimbledon. He was also approached to co-operate on a special signature shoe for adidas. His name is Robert Haillet.

Spare a thought for Haillet, who thanks to the fickle finger of fate could have one of the most famous names and faces in the sneaker world. Instead, a year later, adidas approached an American tennis player by the name of Stan Smith.

The rest is sneaker history.

For the historians among you… adidas replaced Haillet’s signature with Stan Smith’s in 1971 but retained the shoe’s thick outsole and three perforated stripes. Over the years, the trefoil was added onto the heel and his face on the tongue to create one of the most iconic sneaker. Some fifty years later, the adidas Stan Smith is back and he’s never looked so good.

The iconic white and green silhouette takes to the court alongside the red suede and blue suede styles. Stan Smith is back in the game.
