We’re more than just a footwear retailer at schuh: we’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, and are always taking steps to make our shopping experience as inclusive and accessible as possible for all.

From our award-winning Single-Shoe Initiative to our new Ambitious about Autism Partnership, we’re furthering our mission to Do More Good: enabling wellbeing and equity by engaging our people, our platform, and our places.

Ambitious about Autism

In 2025, we began our 3-year partnership with Ambitious about Autism: a national charity striving to improve education, employment, and life opportunities for children and young people with autism in the UK.

Our partnership centers around three key objectives: creating an inclusive shopping experience for neurodivergent customers, offering supported employability opportunities to neurodivergent young people, and increasing understanding of autism within our community, with many of our managers and staff having completed autism awareness training. In store, our retail team is always happy to make sound and visual adjustments on request to create a comfortable shopping experience for our neurodivergent customers.

Single-Shoe Initiative

We’re very proud of our award-winning Single-Shoe Initiative, offering the ability to buy a single shoe at a 50% discount to customers who only require one shoe due to a disability or limb difference. To ensure this opportunity is accessible for all, this initiative is available both in store and via schuh’s Customer Experience team for any customers unable to get to a schuh store.

Inclusive Shopping Initiatives

As part of our commitment to removing barriers to fashion for everyone, we’ve also implemented a number of inclusive shopping initiatives both in-store and online.

We strive to make our social and website content as accessible and inclusive as possible through the use of image descriptors and subtitles, alongside the diverse casting of models for our product imagery.

Inclusive shopping is also a vital part of our in-store experience. We observe quiet hours in a number of our stores and created our social stories with the autistic community in mind, aiming to showcase what to expect from an in-store shopping experience at schuh.

Employability

Employability is also a key part of our mission to Do More Good. Since 2022, we’ve been working with Liverpool City Council to offer employment trials and opportunities to young people with SEND (special educational needs or disabilities) and introduced supported internships to the North-West region in 2023. We’re continuing this in 2026 by working with Ambitious about Autism to offer supported internships at selected locations.

Learning & Development

We’re also proud to be continually fostering the learning and development of our team. We offer Disability Confidence and Neurodivergent training to store staff, equipping them with the knowledge, understanding, and practical approaches required to provide additional support and adjustments to team members and customers. Our goal is to ensure every schuh team member has the knowledge and practical tools to offer the best possible service, with the understanding and care our customers deserve.
