Now this may come as a surprise to some of you, but hiking boots (yes, you read that right) are climbing their way up the fashion charts (sorry). The trusty footwear has been dusted off and reinvented – just in time to be a key trend for AW14.

Let’s consider the classic hiking boot. It’s pretty ugly. But don’t worry – we’re not suggesting you go for a proper pair of actual real hiking boots, and we don’t actually expect you to go hiking (unless you really want to that is). The new hiking boot (or utility boot) is a bit of a hybrid. We’re calling it the urban hiking boot. They’re for people who want to look a bit like a hiker but with skinny jeans and thick woolly socks. And who work in offices, or go to uni, or you know, just hang out and ramble their way through life looking good.

Style wise, we love the schuh District boot. It’s got it all going on – a chunky lug sole (good for extra grip), a padded cuff in soft leather (super comfy all day long), a hook fastening (all about the hardware). What more could you want in a winter boot? It even has a midi block heel, so you still get a little height.

The classic workwear boot is going to be another winter big one with Caterpillar and Timberland leading the way. Forget Jenny from the block and think Cara Delevingne. Cleated/lug soles are still essential and chunky details, like zips and buckles complete the look.
